Skills Development Course: Early Childhood Caregiver NQF Level 1: SP-191219

Course Start Date: First group of students – Monday, 2 March 2026

Course Start Date: Second group of students – Monday, 3 August 2026

Course Cost for Full Fee Paying Students: R7 000

Duration:  3 weeks of training spread over 3 months (one full week per month in the Training Centre) An additional 4th week is set aside for completion of POE if required.

Entry Requirements: Open to all skills levels. Competency in English communication is required.

Assessment: Portfolio of Evidence (POE) and Practical Assessment

Bursaries: Available upon application (not guaranteed) 

Payment Plan: Monthly payment options available

Availability: 20 learners per course; two courses offered per year

Application Form

Occupational Certificate: Early Childhood Development Practitioner – NQF Level 4

Course Cost: R25 000 

Duration: 12 months (one week per month (Sometimes two – 13 weeks of training total for the year) in centre training. In addition 6 months workplace practical placement required).

Entry Requirements: Grade 12 or equivalent qualification, with good level of competency in English Communication and Mathematical Literacy. 

Language of Instruction: English only

Summative Assessment: Independent External Integrated Summative Assessment (EISA) upon course completion.

Bursaries: Allocated to deserving and committed applicants (not guaranteed)

Availability: Limited to 25 learners; only one course offered per year

The Learning Tree Model Preschool

The Learning Tree is KET’s model preschool and practical teacher training centre that provides a holistic learning environment to both learners and educators. Here, children receive age-appropriate developmental support to reach their full potential. Student teachers are mandated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) to complete practical teaching hours in a registered facility and The Learning Tree enables in-classroom experience for them to build confidence and gain experience.
