The early years are the most critical for brain development, and every day of learning counts. We offer research-based daily ECD programmes that guide practitioners in delivering purposeful, age-appropriate learning experiences.
Our Daily Programme is aligned with the Western Cape Department of Education, and includes themed content and daily lesson plans. This is freely available to any ECD facility that wishes to use it, and practitioners are trained on how to follow the lesson plans during regular workshops.
Developed by our Senior Occupational Therapist, this programme trains practitioners in activities to implement in the baby classrooms – ages 3 to 18 months. Teachers are trained in Afrikaans, English, and Xhosa. We aim to equip them with the knowledge to create classroom resources and perform optimal stimulation activities, which will benefit babies’ brains and their healthy physical development, thereby setting them on a good development trajectory.
KET has partnered with SmartStart to support our goal of providing universal access to an ECD facility, irrespective of where a child lives. This programme focuses on children aged 3 to 5 years old and is primarily aimed at Day Mothers (1-8 children) and economic environments that would not sustain a conventional ECD facility.
SmartStart has developed a dynamic social franchise that combines a proven early learning programme with the creation of employment opportunities. Based on scientific research and global best practice, the SmartStart Programme and Daily Routine is designed to equip children aged 3 to 5 with the skills needed to lay the foundation for their development and wellbeing. SmartStart franchisees receive play kits and additional resources to ensure that practitioners can successfully implement the programme.
