Improved Learning through ECD Curriculum Revamp
2024 has brought an exciting revamp to KET’s Early Childhood Development (ECD) curriculum. With our new Programme Area Lead, Elizabeth Normand, at the helm, we’ve enhanced the curriculum’s daily planning. Aligning each theme and outputs to the nationally approved CAPs curriculum will ensure strong foundations for the children to further build on in formal school.
All KET-affiliated facilities have access to this updated curriculum, and all partnering preschool practitioners can attend monthly training workshops.
Speaking about our most recent workshop, Elizabeth reported the following:
“During our workshop on September 18, 2024, attended by 19 Grade R teachers, we had a productive and enriching session focused on lesson planning and thematic teaching. In addition to discussing new lesson plans for the theme Dinosaurs, we delved into the important topic of The Importance of Art in the Classroom. The teachers were highly engaged, and the discussions were lively and insightful.
Following the workshop, we received overwhelmingly positive feedback. The teachers particularly appreciated the additional lesson plans, which provided a variety of developmental activities to choose from, allowing them to tailor their teaching to the needs of their learners. The theme of Art in the Classroom resonated strongly with the teachers, as they recognized how incorporating creative activities can foster cognitive and emotional development in young children.
As part of the workshop, 34 Grade R classes on the KILT programme received an exciting delivery of powder paint in six vibrant colours and liquid project glue. The teachers were overjoyed and deeply grateful for these valuable resources. Not only did these materials lift their spirits, but they also empowered them to create more dynamic, hands-on learning experiences. The teachers expressed their excitement, noting that these resources will significantly enhance their ability to incorporate art into their daily lessons, making learning more engaging and impactful for the children.”
Parents Are Important!
In line with KET’s commitment to fostering greater parental involvement, we have been distributing bi-weekly infographics for practitioners to share with parents. These infographics include helpful tips related to the current curriculum themes, encouraging parents to extend their children’s learning at home through engaging discussions and activities that enhance progress.
We believe that active parental participation is crucial for reinforcing the skills children learn in preschool. These parent tips are also available on our website making it easy for families to access them anytime.
