During the past week volunteers from Edge of Africa transformed blank, uninspiring walls at Eyethu Creche into colourful works of art. This amazing initiative gives young people the opportunity to share their skills to help transform communities!
Thank you so much to Edge of Africa for driving this initiative.

Principal Yolandi Jacobs was thrilled to have the Navy volunteers arrive in two busloads at Jaydine's Daycare preschool during the Oyster festival period. Hours were spent erecting a new perimeter fence, repairing doors and cornices as well as painting the interior and exterior of this bustling little preschool. On behalf of Yolandi and her preschoolers, we would like to heartily thank Steve Eriksen (Lieutenant Commander SCC SA Navy) for co-ordinating this fantastic effort!

The establishment of new premises for Happy Faces Educare in Hornlee, has been a lengthy process of several years. With an adequate property finally becoming available towards the end of last year, Nicky Goodall wasted no time in getting the building process started during JANUARY. "We are elated to finally see earthworks happening at this site!" said Nicky, while donning her gumboots as she observed the bulldozers at work.
"There have been several challenges along the way, but that is to be expected and we try to deal with it as quickly and efficiently as possible," reiterated Nicky who expects the building to be completed by the middle of this year.
FEBRUARY - MARCH
Fast forward to a few weeks later... work is progressing extremely well. What an impressive structure!
WOW! It is extremely exciting to see what a team of 5 can achieve in just 22 days! Not long to go now...
APRIL
Edge of Africa volunteers are assisting with the painting of the building which is also now being painted on the inside before the internal finishes will be made. Thank you to Franzi and the other volunteers!
A few weeks later; April is almost at its end....
A hive of activity ... even though it is Friday and with the long weekend looming ahead! It really is a striking building which is well situated with beautiful spaces and great views. A few streets further down, in their current cramped premises of the past few years, Principal Elizabeth and her preschoolers share great excitement. They cannot wait to exchange their miniscule learning environment for their fancy, new, spacious preschool building. The bonus is that Elizabeth will have her house/home back to herself again!
