Knysna Education Trust held its 21st AGM on Monday 15 September. Community representatives,
local organisations and preschool principals were in attendance at this festive celebration.Back: Mama Koti (Trustee), Gina-Lee Nel (Vice Chairperson), Gail Rossini (Edu-mentor)
Front: Lesley Satchel (Trustee), Richard Sohn (Chairman), Nicky Goodall (Director)
Chairman Richard Sohn welcomed all, detailing that "This is our coming of age as 21 years is an achievement. The Trust started by assisting 2 children and now has 37 affiliated schools. We are making a meaningful difference. I am proud to be a part of the team and consider it a privilege. The operational staff members know and care about their work. We are making progress in ECD circles in this area and it is all to the children’s benefit".
Director Nicola Goodall thanked the Board of Trustees and commented on a gratifying year: "I look forward to leading the team into the future. I appreciate the support from principals/teachers/networks. The saying ‘it takes a village’ is true as success requires great working relationships with the Team, Schools, Board etc. We are aiming for the sky and see great things for the future. I am honoured to come to work every day".
Vice Chairperson Gina-Lee Nel concluded the meeting saying: “It is worth commenting on where we hope to go in the future. Essential services are important with the Department of Social Development and we hope to expand our programme of 1000 days. This is a vital area of development, not just for preschools but also for young mothers which means we can touch more lives going forward. The development of the ECD capacity program has moved forward with the implementation of Numeracy and Literacy. The Trust wants to bring formal education back to Knysna at less of an expense and with accredited mother- tongue teacher training”.
THE TRUST IS PROUD TO HAVE BEEN SERVING THE LOCAL COMMUNITY FOR 21 YEARS!
