Emotional and Nutritional Wellbeing

Meeting a child’s basic needs for development

There are six million children in South Africa under six years of age, the majority of whom live in poverty.

Addressing a child’s wellbeing from birth is fundamental to achieving optimum development. By addressing their health, safety, and nutritional needs, KET is giving children the means to flourish in the classroom.

Many families live below the breadline and the meals children receive at preschool are often their only meal of the day. With assistance from donors, KET currently funds highly nutritious meals for the most vulnerable ECD facilities.

These feeding schemes ensure that children receive the additional nutrition necessary to support their healthy physical and intellectual development, as well as emotional wellbeing.

Since the inception of the programme, more than 1 million meals have been provided to vulnerable children
